By

Despite their contrasting personalities, sisters Vianne and Isabelle have always shared a close bond. While Isabelle, the younger and more adventurous of the two, resides in Paris, Vianne finds contentment in the tranquil French countryside with her husband Antoine and their daughter. However, with the outbreak of the Second World War, Antoine is called to the front lines, leaving Vianne feeling isolated and vulnerable. In response, their father sends Isabelle to assist her sister during these challenging times.

As the war unfolds, the sisters’ relationship and resilience are put to the test. Amidst unimaginable horrors and upheavals, Vianne and Isabelle are confronted with daunting circumstances, compelling them to exhibit courage and resistance in ways they never anticipated. Their actions underscore the diverse manifestations of bravery and defiance in the face of adversity.

Book Review

One of my favorite all time books, and author!  Be prepared with a tissue box, as this one is a definite tearjerker.

This historical novel does a beautiful job bringing to light the roles that women played during World War Two. The characters are beautifully developed and you can do nothing but fall in love with them.  It reveals the many hidden horrors that those that didn’t go off to war experienced.  It keeps you wondering “What would I have done” if you were in the same position.  The choices these characters face were brutally heartbreaking, but honest.
